Sometimes You Gotta Do What You Hate

I hate cold showers. Hate them. When I first jump in them, I’m a sobbing pathetic mess, not to mention how cowardly and weak I turn right before jumping in.

Then, something magical happens: the shock subsides and even though my erratic breathing still echoes off the walls, the discomfort becomes bearable, and I AM ALIVE! Even after I leave the cold shower I feel joy, awakened, and focused.

Our bodies are designed to help us when we jump out of our comfort zones and into discomfort (which, seriously, it sucks to jump out of our comfort zones). They send streams of chemicals to help us cope with discomfort. In fact, the thrill of feeling fully alive only ignites when we push our selves through the things we think we hate, can’t do, don’t want to do, can’t bear, or plain suck, because on the other side, we leave feeling magnificent

What are the cold showers in your life? How can you get more of them into your daily schedule?
